Within IMGD, there are multiple pathways to get yourself into an MQP:
Important Dates:
A fantastic way to get industry-like studio experience, fully focus on your MQP and only your MQP for one term, and have dedicated help from IMGD faculty and students beyond your MQP team.

A portion of the one-term MQP will be devoted to faculty-led MQP proposals. Hold onto your hat! These faculty projects will leave lots of room for you to follow your inspiration and dreams and are often the best and surest way to put great looking entries on your resume and portfolio to future employers.
However, there will be some space allotted for student projects in the One-term Project Center. You can use the same proposal form as for year-long proposals, but be sure to check the one-term box at the top: https://imgdhub.wpi.edu/academic-planning/mqp/mqp-pitch-process Proposals and students that don’t end up in the project center can also be considered for the year-long pitch event.
Single majors need three terms (3 courses' worth) of MQP and double majors need to fulfill WPI's requirements. You'll need a faculty advisor per major--and for IMGD, roughly one per discipline as well.
Most IMGD MQPs are game projects (and most of those are digital games)… but not all! We've made graphic novels and art books, interactive exhibits, and plenty of other amazing manifestations of interactive media.
The process of forming year-long MQPs begins with a kick-off pitch event on Academic Advising Day in C Term. Both students and faculty projects are presented (pitched) in-person from a slide deck. After the presentations, we take the first (but not last!) steps of joining MQP groups and securing faculty to advise them.
After the pitch event and well before the end of the year, MQPs are “greenlighted” (“greenlit”?)—meaning declared ready to run—based on two factors: it has a core group students and commitments from the needed advisors. It can take a bit for the dust to settle, but everyone does end up with an MQP in the end!
If you want to pitch a student MQP, you must begin with a 2-page pitch proposal. See https://imgdhub.wpi.edu/academic-planning/mqp/mqp-pitch-process for more.
Applications are open now and due by Jan 15th of next year.
