This is the new process for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Here is the process for juniors who wish to present an IMGD MQP pitch for their senior year. See the bottom of this page for a refresher on how MQPs work.
Complete this form. Write out your plan as clearly and in as much detail as you've got. Don't pad or invent bits you're not sure of.
Then send it in an email to: gr-imgd-community-committee@wpi.edu.
You must complete this first step by the end of B Term (Dec 15th).
IMGD Faculty will review the proposal and come back with one of two responses: 1) approval to pitch 2) more feedback on what would be required to pitch.
Approval means you get to pitch your MQP. It doesn't mean a faculty commitment to advise or student registrations. Those come later!
Last day to submit for final proposal is Friday, January 19th.
Submitting a Proposal
IMGD will hold an MQP pitch session on Academic Advising Day, Thurs Feb 22nd. Approved projects will prepare a single slide and get a couple minutes to present their plan to faculty and fellow students. With luck, you'll get the advisors and student roles you need!
Despite the name, this is stage is really about tracking projects that have acquired the advisors and student roles they need to run. Greenlit means ready to go.
Major Qualifying Projects are senior year projects. In IMGD, that most often means creating a game or work of interactive media. Because many of our students are double majoring in CS, many MQPs run for 4 terms, rather than the single-major requisite 3.
Every year your friendly neighborhood faculty will have MQP options to offer. These are often broad enough that there is a ton of room for creative expression and ownership. However, there is room for a number of student-derived projects as well.
Some important takeaways here are:
Lastly, if you have questions about any aspect of MQPs whatsoever, please email them to: gr-imgd-community-committee@wpi.edu.
