- This wiki is primarily for information and resources
Ideas, opinions, and creative work are at the root of much of what we do as game devs/artists/engineers. While discussions of these things is encouraged - this hub is not the best venue for it. If you're looking to chat about ideas/current events/media you like with other members of the IMGD community, the IMGD Discord is a great place to do that!
- This wiki is for all members of our community
The IMGD community is open to current, former, and prospective WPI students, faculty and staff regardless of age, race, ethnicity, background, identity, etc. Where applicable, take care to use inclusive language and remain respectful and professional.
- Avoid Redundancy
Link to existing content where possible, both inside and outside of the wiki. If you are worried about longevity of an external resource, you can link it through the web archive to ensure the linked copy doesn't go away: https://web.archive.org/
- Does the content exist elsewhere?
- There's a lot of specific information that would be useful to have on hand - but is owned by other people/organizations and would be a pain to maintain. Often, the best way to make information accessible is to simply link out to it at the source. If there is an existing web page somewhere else for that information, you can simply link to it with a short description of what it is/why it's important.
- Does this require a new page?
- If you were expecting to find a piece of information somewhere on this wiki and didn't, it might make sense to simply add it to the page you expected to see it as an edit to that page or as a comment.
- Comments are great for time-dependent information: if you want to link out to a one-off event, a job posting, or some other kind of content that will be outdated in the near future, it might make sense to add a comment rather than edit the page so that it is clearly timestamped and doesn't need to be removed later.
- What are the essential details?
Recommended if you don't need a pretty direct link to the file. Subject to Discord file size limits for your account
- Right click the file in discord and copy link
- Add a filename/description to the page where you'd like to link the file, highlight said text, then click the link button in the toolbar and paste the file link from Discord
5MB max size. The file will get a nice-looking link like https://imgdhub.wpi.edu/trumbus.png
- With the cursor wherever you'd like to insert a link to the file, click the image icon on the toolbar (labeled "Add Assets" if you hover over it)
- Select or create a folder to add the file too (ideally, a folder matching the corresponding IMGD Hub section, e.g. "academic-planning")
- Click "Browse" on the top right to select a file and upload it
- Select the file on the left and click "Insert"
Consider all uploaded files public. With either of these options, anyone with a direct link to the file will be able to download it without logging in, regardless of whether the "internal" tag has been applied to the page. The Discord CDN is unsecured, and anyone savvy could theoretically index the site for files uploaded directly to IMGD Hub even if they're not linked anywhere.
